Semex Jerseys Impress Worldwide
Semex’s high fertility Repromax™ sire 0200JE00314 Hollylane Lilibet’s Legacy maintains his status as Canada’s top LPI sire, gaining 131 points during the August summaries to arrive at +1877. A Master Series™ and Health$mart™ sire that added 62 production tested and 46 classified daughters since April, this reliable second crop sire is leaving offspring that are consistently pleasing breeders from coast to coast with their high levels of milk yield, elevated component tests, low somatic cell scores, well-attached udders and solid feet & legs.
First proven in August 2009, 0200JE00946 Sunset Canyon Dice has steadily enhanced the attractiveness of his summary as more first crop daughters are added. Today, Semex’s component leader is the second highest sire residing in Canada for LPI, having gained 35 points since April, and coming in at +1542. This deep-pedigreed Jace son sires exceptional teat placement, texture, and center support in the mammary system and can be counted on to deliver significant improvement in somatic cell score and daughter calving ability.

The two highest ranking newly proven sires for LPI from the August genetic evaluations in Canada are both graduates of the Semex young sire program. 0200JE00435 Hautpre Fall River, a son of Blackys Big Time from the #2 LPI cow of the breed, Hautpre Fusion Francia, debuts at +1184 for LPI, securing the #7 position in the breed overall. 0200JE00144 Bridon Jade’s Exploit, a Jade son from an EX Lester Sambo daughter of Hases Babes Lad Charo EX-92-4E-6*, starts out at +1124 LPI, holding the ninth position overall.
Obtaining his highest ranking since receiving his first proof in January 2010 is 0200JE00026 Sunset Canyon Levon at +1121, and #4 in the breed for protein yield at +50 kg. This Rocket son ranks #10 in the breed for LPI and is Semex’s sixth member of the top 10 for LPI among proven Jersey sires.
Proven veterans 0200JE00420 Pine Haven Senior (Master Series™, Repromax™, Health$mart™), 0200JE00303 SHF Centurion Sultan (Designer Series™, Repromax™, Health$mart™), 0200JE00323 RJF Big Show and 0200JE00423 Lencrest Blackstone, a Repromax™ sire, hold down further positions among the top 20 bulls in the breed for LPI at +1063, +1029, +1028 and +1003, respectively. The breed’s top type sire for the third consecutive time, 0200JE00427 Select-Scott Minister, combines an impressive array of functional traits with his +13 for Conformation to yield an LPI of +874, good enough to hold a position among the breed’s top 30 bulls for LPI.
With regards to the latest sire summaries in the US, Master Series™ sire 0200JE00990 Sunset Canyon RP Militia maintains his #1 position in the breed for Cheese Merit Dollars at +542 and is tied for #1 with another sire for Daughter Pregnancy Rate with a DPR of 2.3. Now at 99% Reliability for the production traits (2,377 daughters in 377 herds) he further ranks #2 in the breed for Net Merit Dollars at +475, #2 for Productive Life at +5.3 and #4 for Fluid Merit Dollars at +427. In the breed this second crop sire ranks #6 for JPI overall at +151.
Receiving his first official type summary of +1.3 based on 35 daughters appraised in 13 herds is 0200JE00030 Forest Glen Fanatic. This Health$mart™ sire is an Action son of a Bold Venture Daniel dam, and was returned to service earlier in 2010 based upon a favorable production rating. Now with a JUI of +3.78, a JPI of +110 and a ranking of 4th for Dairy Form among active bulls, Fanatic is certain to see continued popularity among value-seeking dairymen.
A recent acquisition to the Semex proven lineup is 0200JE09826 BW Surefire, the focus of a very successful daughter group display during the June 2010 AJCA Annual Convention activities held at Sunset Canyon Jerseys, Beaver, OR. A Repromax™ sire, Surefire’s specialties are udders and frames, with top 10 rankings in the breed for JUI, Fore Udder Attachment, Udder Depth and Rump Width. Siring ample size, scale and power, he also ranks among the breed’s top 10 sires for Daughter Pregnancy Rate and Foot Angle.

Both of these sires are from well-known cow families that are respected across North America. The first, Avanti, is a Futurity son from a Lemvig maternal sister to the former Jersey Jug winner Sunset Canyon MBSB Anthem-ET. He sires well-attached, high, wide udders, lowers somatic cell score and will improve milk yield and fat test. A Genomax™ sire, Praetorian is a full brother to BW Academy, thus a son of BW Legion from a top transmitting Avery daughter, BW Avery Katie ET121-ET.
